Mya's Training

Mya has been going to obedience as it's the first part of becoming a service dog. Our goal is to have Mya become a therapy dog. But first obedience must be mastered so that therapy training can begin. She and I are working very hard to make it to the next level.

Way to go CPR!!

As many of you know Pugs & Pooches WinterBark was our first ever big event that we sponsored. WE had a wonderful turnout that helped raise much needed funds to help us provide for our pugs. It also gave us a great chance to show off our adoptable pugs. Because of this event Barkley was discovered by a wonderful family and went to his forever home this past week. And Mary who was also there met with many families and has one interested in fostering her with a potential adoption pending!! Included are a pic of Mary & Barkley together and then Mary in the adoption pen.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! I went over to a friends last night to celebrate the new year. We watched the ball drop with Dick Clark and enjoyed each others' company. I woke up today excited to start in on my new years resolution. My first project that I want to take on is the fact that the condo complex I live in still does not recycle. I practiced my speech I was going to give and headed over to the office to speak with them. To my disappointment the office is closed until Monday to observe the holiday. I'm going to have to wait until next week to tackle this one.

What do I already do?

Before we embark on 2009 I wanted to figure out what positive impact I currently am making. You can't figure out where to go if you don't know where you've been, right?!?! So lets see......I volunteer with Compassionate Pug Rescue. I've been with them since October 2007. I foster and rehabilitate pugs and get them ready to be adopted. I also help with all fund raising projects and volunteer at as many events that my schedule allows. I'm one of a few photographers who photograph children for The Heart Gallery of Broward County. I photograph children who are up for adoption. This way their story can be accompanied with a photo. I've been with them since 2008. These are the 2 volunteer projects that I'm currently involved with. With regards to going green, I only use re-usable cloth bags when shopping. At the grocery store, the mall, everywhere I shop. I also use BlackLe. It's a google based search engine that allows for less energy to be used while doing searches because the background screen is black instead of white. Maybe not the biggest things, but individual acts should never be overlooked. My goal for 2009 and this project is for me to find a way to make a difference. One person trying to make changes in daily life that will improve the world in some way. What are you doing to make a difference?

What am I up to?

Today I worked on South Beach and we had a few minutes of down time. I went into the Kenneth Cole store on 8th and Collins. He has a book for sale, Awareness Inspiring Stories About How To Make A Difference. I opened the book to have a quick glance and turned to the page about Lance Armstrong. He talked about his fight with cancer and the launch of the Livestrong Yellow Wristband. Lance mentions that they sat around and joked at the thought of having 4.9 million of the bands left over and not sure what to do with them. Turns out in less than a year 47.5 million were sold. This intrigued me. I bought the book and have so far read only 5 of the 86 stories. I'm already inspired and want to see if I can really make a difference. I am one person, so lets see. I've been fighting with myself about my new years resolution. This year I wanted to come up with something a little better than stay in shape and eat healthier. I've now made my 2009 New Year's Resolution to see if I can really make a difference. Here starts a journey of what one person can really do.
